Built in the early 17th Century, Dove Cottage was originally a 170-year old inn that became the residence of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy after the inn closed. They were later joined by his wife Mary and their three children. Wordsworth wrote his most famous and beloved poems at Dove Cottage. The adjacent Wordsworth Museum showcases a collection of his original letters, journals and poems.
